Radiological Maintenance Facility


Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management's Radiological Maintenance Facility provides calibration, maintenance and repair services for partners involved in the Radiological Emergency Preparedness Program, local first responder organizations and private industry. Staff also provides training on the proper use of portable instruments and decontamination procedures.


Our facility also offers full calibration and repair services for most manufacturer's instruments and detectors.* Typical turnaround times are 3-5 working days for calibration and 7-10 working days for repairs requiring non-stocked parts. Repair estimates are offered at no cost and repair and modification charges are based on material cost plus labor.


Labor rates are billed for actual time at the following rates:

*Exposure rate calibrations are performed using a Cs-137 source. Standard calibration includes two points per range, NIST traceability and ANSI N323 compliance.
